Rio de Janeiro

Brazilians say that God created the world in six days and, on the seventh, He created Rio. On first sight, this seems perfectly believable. This 'Marvelous City' as its inhabitants, the Cariocas, call it, is indeed one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world.

Uniquely situated on a narrow strip of land between the green mountains and the deep blue sea, it’s surrounded by granite based mountains, coves, and white sand beaches. The most famous coastal mountain is the Pao de Acucar (Sugar Loaf), which has wonderful views of the city, the bay, and the Corcovado (the statue of Christ).

You’ll also visit the colonial jewel of Paraty, surrounded by beautiful rugged beaches, numerous islands off the coast, parks with plantations and waterfalls. Founded in 1660, its colonial heritage is preserved in the form of elegant colonial Portuguese churches and houses in the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere of a town trapped contentedly in a time warp. Paraty has lots of bars, restaurants, shops and boutiques and is known for its delicious cuisine as well as being one of the principal cachaca (sugar cane spirits) distilling regions in Brazil.
